YASAS AFARI

1st RASTAFARI AMBASSADOR

To the Parliament of the World Religions

History in the making, on wednesday 25th November 2009 Rastafari Ambassador Yasus Afari left I&I the Rastafari community in Birmingham England on an inspired mission to the "Parliament of the World Religions. This the 116th Parliament will be held in Melbourne Australia from the 3rd - 9th December 2009.

Yasua Afari is the first Rastafarian to receive an invitation to become an Ambassador to the Parliament which was founded in 1897, just one year after the birth of Tafari Makonnen better known as Ras Tafari or Emperor Haile Selassie 1st.

Ambassador Yasus Afari will deliver a paper to the Parliament called "RASTAFARI - The Livity Of Spirituality" which will cover issues about mankind's relationship with the earth, humanity, repatriation & reparations and many other vital points.

Background

Yasus Afari's book "Overstanding Rastafari, Jamaica's Gift to the World" has been a best seller in Jamaica where it is being used in schools.

Respect and Honour is due, Yasus has been conducting himself with humility in a diplomatic role throughout the Caribbean and other parts of the world for a long time now, and also remember, Yasus Afari has already spoken in many of the worlds Parliaments about Rastafari and it's global impact.

Our Ambassador journeys to Australia with the blessings and support from Rastafarians and other supporters across the 5 continents of the world, Ethiopia & Africa, Jamaica & the Caribbean, Japan & Asia, North & South America, England & Europe.

Ethiopian Insight has known and worked with Yasus Afari since 1996 when we first met at the "Battle of Adwa Victory Centenary Celebrations" in Ethiopia, I have since witnessed him gain the support of the U.K Rastafari community through his involvement in the positive work done with the University of Birmingham and as a consultant in the Rastafari Roots & Development project,

Yasus has also been deeply involved with creating new avenues in the work being done in the inter-faith community, mental health and the prison services. a number of leading figures such as Professor F. Hickling & Dr G. Parris has been involved with the Rastafari heritage research & training team to increase the awareness of the role that Rastafarians play in offering new perspectives& solutions to the problems of mankind.

This is a new moment in Rastafari social development, and is seen by many as a positive example of following in the footsteps of Emperor Haile

Selassie who hosted and attended many inter-faith & ecumenical conferences in Ethiopia and around the world.

Ambassador Yasus Afari has shared some of his letters of support from the leading Rastafari Councils and from numerous government officials with I, they include -

C.R.O (Caribbean Rastafari Organisation),

The Millennium Council (Nyahbinghi, Bobo-Shanti, 12 Tribes of Israel)

and other Rastafari organisation's and groups

Jamaican Government

KISS MI NECK – YASUS AFARI AT THE PARLIAMENT OF THE WORLD’S RELIGIONS

YASUS AFARI NOMINATED AMBASSADOR FOR THE PARLIAMENT OF WORLD RELIGIONS

Internationally acclaimed Author, Poet and Artiste Yasus Afari has been offered the prestigious role of Ambassador to the 116 year old Council for The Parliament of the World’s Religions. Consequently, Yasus has been nominated to The Parliament of the World’s Religions 2009 Ambassador Program.

The Parliament of the World’s Religions brings together the world’s religious and spiritual communities, their leaders and their followers to a gathering where peace, diversity and sustainability are discussed and explored in the context of inter-religious understanding and cooperation. This event is graced with the presence of prominent and significant world religious leaders, the likes of the Dalai Lama and many others from 74 countries worldwide. This year’s event will be hosted in Melbourne Australia December 3rd to 9th.

SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION TO THE INTERFAITH MOVEMENT

On the basis of his significant contribution to the interfaith movement, Yasus has been singled out on account of his hectic world tours and his visionary activities in the interest of the interfaith movement especially since 2007. Interestingly, The Ministry of Culture recently dubbed Yasus Afari Jamaica’s Cultural Ambassador. Earlier this year, Yasus was similarly dubbed when in January 2009 he appeared at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs International Diplomatic Conference held at the Courtleigh Auditorium in Kingston Jamaica.

ROLE OF THE PARLIAMENT OF THE WORLD’S RELIGIONS AMBASSADOR

If Yasus accepts this highly esteemed role, he will then represent the World Parliament of The World’s Religions in Jamaica, the Caribbean and the rest of the world. His duties will include sensitizing Governments, Faiths and Religious groups, CARICOM and the general Caribbean communities about the World Parliament and the interfaith movement. Very significantly, he will represent the interest and position, concepts and world views of Rastafarians. In this connection, Yasus’s main lecture presentation at the Parliament is entitled “Rastafari, The Livity of Spirituality”. Consistent with the role of Ambassador, he will be given special parliamentary privileges and responsibilities relating to Rastafari, Jamaica and the Caribbean.

REGGAE PERFORMANCES

Yasus will also be doing several performances at the event and the Sacred Music Festival as part of the Parliament of the World’s Religions’ three days activities.

HISTORIC AND UNPRESIDENTED EVENT FOR JAMAICA, THE CARIBBEAN AND RASTAFARI

This unprecedented development represents a great precedent for Jamaica, the Caribbean and the general Rastafarian community as no Jamaican or Rastafarian has been represented at this level at the Parliament of The World’s Religions in the 116 year history of the organisation.

Consistent with his pace setting role, Yasus has been in consultation with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture; Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade as well as Tourism. In addition to this he will be deepening consultations with the Global Rastafarian communities.
